MyBAB Gift Guide for Her

party-ideas

Okay ladies, this one is for us. Do you struggle coming up with ideas for yourself? Well we want to make sure we get a few things we want this year and here’s what we’re thinking of adding to our list.

  1. UGG slippers – slippers are a must and we have our eye on these.
  2. Lysse Leggings from Evereve – these leggings with their hidden tummy panel are a wardrobe staple. Pair with this cute tunic from Francesca’s.
  3. Hamilton Tickets – this groundbreaking Broadway hit is making it’s way to Chicago and you do not want to miss it! It’s powerful, emotional, and brilliant.
  4. philosophy amazing grace – feminine and clean, this perfume is a favorite.
  5. Roomba – Robot vacuums are a big thing right now and we can see why. Anything that helps us clean our house is a win for us.
  6. Gift Card for Blow Out – we’re big fans of someone else doing our hair. A Blow Out is a fun way to get some pampering in between cuts. {mom tip: they give us a few days of not washing our hair} We hit up Pepper Annex or Ten Friends for this hair treat.
  7. Cell Phone Cover – cell phone covers are a fun accessory to protect our phones. In keeping true to our theme, we’ll be asking for one that is bubbly themed.

What is on your Christmas list? We’d love to check them out {and add them to ours}!

Elf on the Shelf

It is that time of year again. Whether you love this tradition, or dread having to remember to move the dang elf we have some pretty fun and easy tips and ideas to make the Elf on the Shelf a little easier this year.

I will confess, I held out as long as I could on this tradition, but last year when Blake was 4, he was starting to hear about his friends’ elves and his classroom even had one so I knew it was time to get one for ourselves. I searched all over Pinterest for ideas and then created a spreadsheet (insert nerd alert!) to help me figure out what I was going to do each night. This actually was SO HELPFUL. I wasn’t stressed coming up with ideas I just had to follow the spreadsheet (well more accurately, make sure my husband followed the spreadsheet because I always pass out early!). Here are 30 fun ideas that we have used to cover everyday that the Elf comes to visit.

elf-on-the-shelf-ideas

Now Wendy who is much smarter than me, took pictures of everything their Elf did last year so that they could just pull up the pictures on their phone for inspiration. Here are some fun pictures of their Elf.

Another great tip is to set a reminder on your phone every night so you don’t forget!

So thanks again to this little magical Elf who will help our kids behave at least for a little bit 🙂

Fall Handbag Picks with Nordstrom

nordstrom-fall-bag-picks

Because there is no such thing as too many handbags….

We are not the girls that change out our bags to match our outfit daily (because who the heck has time to do that?) so we tend to want bags that can be worn on a regular basis and are practical while still being cute. And by practical I mean be able to hold goldfish and spare undies (my little one is in the midst of potty training, lord help me!). We have picked out 5 bags that we think would work nicely for the next few months of this cooler weather.

#1 Tory Burch Crossbody $195

nordstrom-bag-4

I will let you in on a secret, I am cheap. So usually when I see the Tory Burch label I immediately look the other way. However, I do sometimes spend some money on bags that I know will last and withstand the beating I usually end up giving them. Plus, with little kids having a crossbody to allow your hands to be free is priceless.

#2 Matt & Nat Satchel $170

nordstrom-bag-2

For working Mom’s who want to be able to throw their computer or tablet in their bag as well as the hundred other items this bag would be perfect. The classic brown can withstand lots of seasons and not look dated.

#3 Phase 3 Suede Hobo Bag $99

nordstrom-bag-3

Nothing screams fall like suede. It is so pretty and soft. This simple design and great details like the tassel make it a winner in our book. Tip: Spray the suede with suede shoe protector to protect against water and stains to have it last longer.

#4 Sole Society Backpack $49.95

nordstrom-bag-1

Ok, I will admit that up until recently the thought of a backpack seemed very childish and school like. Then one day I was so fed up with carrying everyone’s stuff and my shoulder was throbbing because I probably had 30 lbs in my purse that I said screw it “I need a backpack”. Let me tell you, this was a GAME CHANGER. I use my backpack every weekend whenever we are with the kids. Snacks, toys, blankie, waterbottles everything goes in the backpack and my shoulder doesn’t hurt and my hands are free. GENIUS. This Sole Society backpack is grownup and pretty and also oh so practical. And with that price, you might as well get two.

#5 Michael Kors Crossbody $168

nordstrom-bag-5

If you can’t tell, we have a theme around here and that theme is when you have kids your hands must be free at all times. Plus, we love a great multi-tasker. This beauty can be a crossbody or a clutch. So it can go from day to night very easily without taking out all of your stuff. Woohoo.

The best is that Nordstoms offers free shipping and free returns all the time, so treat yourself and head to Nordstrom’s site to shop all of the fun fall handbags!  Join Nordstrom Rewards now and get $10 on us to spend Nov. 26-Dec. 24. It’s fast, free and easy to join. Learn more.

A Kids Halloween Birthday

Last year we started a tradition. Our kids (Blake and Adelyn) are only a week apart and they are besties (which is how we became such good friends, thanks kids!!) and they were begging for a birthday party so we decided to do the economical thing and have a joint birthday party. We would have invited the same kids anyways if we had individual parties, so why not do one party and split the cost? WIN WIN FOR ALL. The kids had such a great time last year and it was so easy that this year we decided to do it again.

We decided to have the party at the Crystal Lake Gymnastic Center (same place as last year). We highly recommend not having large parties (we invited their whole class- so 20 kids) at your house. Way too much cleaning and prepping. The kids get to play for an hour in the gym without anyone else in there (CLGC provides two employees to watch and help the kids, and parents are welcome to come play with the kids). After playtime the kids gather in the room for cake and snacks and then everyone goes home. Easy cleanup! Plus, CLGC provides every kid at the party with a free voucher to come back for an open gym time.

Since the only weekend we could find to work for the party was the weekend before Halloween we decided to have a Halloween themed birthday party. The kids were allowed to dress up and come in their costume if they wanted.

img_4607

For goodie bags (are we the only ones who dread having to make these!!) we decided to keep it simple and things that the kids might actually want and not throw away within ten seconds. We got orange bags with candy corn ribbon and inside the bags were: cups, silly straws, pencil, stickers, glow in the dark fangs, spider ring and candy. The kids loved the fangs the most!!

For decorations, again simple was the name of the game. Since the kids weren’t going to be in the room long and we didn’t want to get crazy and have to deal with where we could put things, we just set up the tables and grabbed some balloons.

The party was from 2-4pm so we didn’t do a meal, instead we gave the kids Goldfish, Pirates Booty and cheesesticks. Then we had juice and water. We love pre-portioned food because there is no fighting and everyone gets the same amount. This made it really easy in the chaos of hungry kids to get the kids settled and eating.

The original plan was just to do cupcakes (again if you haven’t noticed our theme is EASY) but then luckily Adelyn insisted on a cake as well and Wendy was able to get the cutest cake ever (the images from the invite were on the cake)!!! Plus it tasted amazing. WOOHOO.

img_4659img_4611img_4610

Overall, we were so happy with how everything turned out and the best part, it was beyond easy to put together (which can I get an amen!!).

MyBAB ~ Fall Crushes

If you can’t tell, we kinda have a crush on Fall and we’re hoping to hold on to Fall a little bit longer. Fall weather is perfect for sweaters, coffee, and all things cozy. With the season coming to an end, we thought we would share a few things we’re crushing on right now.

Candle: We love this Ceramic Pumpkin Blanc from Francesca’s. It’s a cute add to your decor and the perfect scent for a cool Fall day.

Coffee Mug: We don’t know what happens, but Fall gets crazy busy for both of us at work and home. We’re constantly on the go, but Wen loves to start her mornings with a cup of coffee and just added this mug to her Etsy cart. #truewords

Lipstick: Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Gubby is the perfect nude color. With the sparkle its perfect for that night out.

Nail polish: Freshly painted nails really looks like you have it together. Whether or not you do, that’s your secret. We love essie’s chinchilly which is a “greige” polish that is the perfect line between cool, warm, light, and dark.

Recipe: Fall screams comfort foods and we’re all about simple weeknight meals. We get a thumbs up from the MyBAB kids and our husbands when we cook up these Meatball Subs from Mix and Match Mama.

TV show: This Is Us on NBC. If you’re not watching this show, stop what you are doing and go watch it. You’ll thank us later.

Wine: We were able to snag Xo, G Wines on sale at our local Jewel for $3.99 and will be drinking these for a few weeks.

What are you crushing on this Fall? Let us know, we’re always looking for new things and with holiday shopping happening, we need some ideas to add to our lists.
