Spring Break Staycation & Activities

With Spring Break approaching, we are ready for some warm weather and some fun! While many are planning to escape the winter temps and head to warmer destinations, if you’re like us, we’ll be staying home (and working). A Staycation is a fun way to explore your local area and make some memories. Whether you have time for an overnight, a day trip or need a day camp while you work, we put together some Staycation ideas and Activities for your littles to enjoy in Chicagoland.

Overnight Locations

Chicago - Bean

If you’re looking to stay downtown Chicago, we recommend the Swissotel. The hotel has Kids Suites (with video games, kid-sized furniture, coloring books, dvds), an indoor pool, includes four museum passes and is steps away from everything Chicago has to offer.

A less pricey option for an overnight is the Embassy Suites in River North. The two-room suites are spacious with a separate living room area. Enjoy free breakfast, nightly reception with snacks and beverages, an indoor heated pool and the city outside the door.

Just over the border and less than an hour drive, Lake Geneva’s Timber Ridge Lodge offers a perfect getaway for families. Packages include one or two bedroom suites with water park passes included. The water park is a blast for kids 10 and under with swings, slides, mushroom waterfall, activity pool, and a lazy river. The Abbey Resort in Fontana has a full list of spring break activities from Moana’s Quest to Minute To Win It Games to Splash & Glow Pool Time, there’s sure to be something for your kids to enjoy!

Located three hours from Chicagoland, the Wisconsin Dells is the Water Park Capital of the World. Make a splash at one of the indoor water parks, jump around at the trampoline park, or race around the arcade, there’s fun for all. MyBAB are big fans of the Wilderness Resort with several lodging options (including villas, condos and cabins), four indoor water parks that are exclusively for the guests of the resort (no day passes), and Sundara spa is right down the road.

Make it a Day Trip

Hop aboard the metra to The Choo Choo Diner in Des Plaines. The restaurant is located one block from the Lee St. Metra Station. Sit along the counter and model train will deliver your food. The menu has hamburger, hot dogs, and cupcakes topped with a train whistle. Before boarding the train back, spend some time in the Des Plaines Public Library – the kids area on the second floor is great for all ages.

Make the drive to Glenview for a day of fun starting with interactive fun at the Kohl Children’s Museum, grab lunch at The Glen (the Yard House is our favorite) and let the kids burn off energy at Funtopia as they climb, jump and slide.

Local Attractions

Make the most of your visit to the city with the CityPASS. You’ll get VIP admission to Shedd Aquarium, Skydeck Chicago, The Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium or Art Institute of Chicago.

While not included in the CityPASS, Navy Pier’s Children Museum is hands-on fun. Dig for dinosaur bones, splash in the water playground, or paint in the art studio, Through May 14, kids can create their own kingdom with the Once Upon A Castle exhibit.
