Summer is heating up with some fun for the whole family. Between the backyard cookouts and pool parties, we have compiled our list of fun things to do this month in the area.

National Ice Cream Day

Here’s the scoop on National Ice Cream Day – a holiday declared by President Ronald Reagan back in 1984 to promote the economic well-being of the U.S. dairy industry. July 27 | 6 p.m. | Crystal Lake Brewing

Start your weekend off with some muscle cars at the Crystal Lake Car Shows. Free admission, live music, food trucks and beer available for purchase.

July dates | Sage YMCA, Elite Kids, Pump It Up, and Health Bridge

Drop the kids off for pizza dinner, outdoor fun, games, swimming, and a movie while you have a few hours for yourself. {Mom Tip: we’ve put together a list of the PNO~KNO in the area}

Where To Go To Get Your BBQ on
Rockin Ribfest
July 6-9 | Sunset Park, LITH

The fest includes rib vendors both local and nationally-known, live music, family-friendly games and entertainment hosted by the Lake in the Hills Rotary Club. The Ribfest is the Rotary’s biggest fundraiser and runs all weekend. The festival is open from 4:30 to 11 p.m. July 6-7, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 8 and 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 9 at Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Road. Admission is $5 for those 13 and older and free for those 12 and younger and active military with ID. {More festivals here}

We love checking out new and local restaurants in the area. 1776 is an iconic Crystal Lake restaurant that has recently changed ownership and remodel. Wen checked out 1776 for Wine Wednesday {you’re not surprised are you?} and loved the new look. Stop in today to see for yourself!

Where To Take The Kids To See Big Trucks
Touch A Truck

Touch a Trucks events are always popular, especially with families who might have a kiddo or two who loves tractors, fire engines and other big machinery.

Where To Go For Some Family Fun
Concerts in the Park 
Tuesdays | 7 p.m. | Crystal Lake Main Beach 

Bring a picnic dinner, pack a blanket {and bug spray} and enjoy the evening at the beach. Listen to great music as the sun sets over the beautiful lake.

Now through July 13 | McHenry Outdoor Theater 

If you are looking for to support a local venue, consider heading to the Golden Age Cinemas McHenry Outdoor Theater for an evening of fun! Bring your chairs, a blanket, radio, frisbee, and your leashed dog for a little nostalgia. Admission is $12.00 for each adult and $6.00 for children ages 11 and under.

Jen and Wen drank a couple of these at the Cottage in downtown Crystal Lake a few weeks ago. They were so delish, we asked our server for the recipe so we can make up a batch on a warm summer day.
