Weekend Happenings

We’re not fooling, April is here! {that was lame, wasn’t it?} Nevertheless, its a new month and that means were thismuchcloser to summer!

April Highlights

  • National Days in April
2 – PB&J Day: we know what you’re having for lunch
3 – Don’t go to Work Unless it’s Fun Day: we know your decision, but unless you take a vacation day, it’s best you head into the office
7 – Beer Day: hit up one of the local breweries for a beer
  • Spring Cleaning
It’s time to purge the closets, clean out the cabinets, fridge, freezer, and pantry, and get ready for all things summer. If you have growing kids, donate or drop those too small clothes {or in our case those clothes that flat our refuse to wear} and get them out of the house!
  • Sexual Assault Awareness Month
    You’ll be hearing themes such as “Embrace Your Voice”, “Break the Silence” and “#MeToo” this month to educate and empower individuals on how they can promote safety and respect, as well as continue to raise awareness around these issues. {If you’re local, check out the sexual assault discussion and training event Wen has been working on!}

We also have these events happening in the area for you to check out for kids activities, family fun, date nights, and what we’re sipping this month here at MyBAB.

MyBAB Drink of the Month ~ Lemon-Thyme Vodka Lemonade

As we move into spring, we are ready for light and refreshing drinks! Wen is kinda obsessed with lemons right now, so this drink is perfect.

3 lemon wedges
.25 cup Lemon-Thyme Syrup
.25 cup citrus vodka
.25 cup club soda
1 sprig fresh thyme, preferably lemon thyme

Run 1 lemon wedge over the rim of a highball glass; dip the rim into sugar. Reserve the lemon wedge.
Put the remaining 2 lemon wedges in a cocktail shaker along with the syrup and vodka. Muddle hard, breaking the lemon skins to release their oils. Cover and shake.

Carefully fill the rimmed glass with ice. Pour the syrup mixture into the glass, lemon wedges and all. Top off with the club soda, the squeeze the reserved lemon wedge over before dropping it into the glass. Garnish with the thyme sprig and serve immediately.

Lemon-Thyme Syrup
Makes 1 cup
.75 cup sugar
1 small bunch fresh thyme, preferably lemon thyme (.5 ounce)
In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup water and the sugar to boiling, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Add the thyme, remove from the heat, and let stand until cool. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible. Cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
